What to expect at PaperWeek 2015 in Montreal

PaperWeek Canada is an opportunity for those in the pulp and paper industry to gather and share new and exciting information. Based in Montreal, this conference brings people and organizations from all over Canada to discuss the prospects for the industry and how best to maximize those opportunities.

The theme of this year's PaperWeek is "Shaping the Future: People, Process and Innovation". The participants and the subjects that will be covered during the week of February 2nd reflect the changing face and priorities of the industry.

In addition to the opportunity to connect with friends and colleagues from the sector, the annual event is always packed with productive discussions on how to better the industry.

Yvon Pelletier, President of Fortress Paper, an FPAC member company, is Chair of the program committee for this year's PaperWeek. I am pleased to have him write for the President's Blog and hope you enjoy the read. Please feel free to comment.

PaperWeek Canada is the preeminent annual conference and tradeshow for the Canadian pulp, paper and forest products industry. The event brings together key players from pulp and paper mills and head offices, equipment and service suppliers, government, research institutes, universities, consulting firms, utility service providers, and allied industries. As the Pulp and Paper Technical Association of Canada (PAPTAC) celebrates its 100th Anniversary, the 2015 edition of PaperWeek Canada will present a number of activities designed to commemorate the important goals achieved by our Association. Under the theme “Shaping the Future: People, Process & Innovation”, high-level presentations will be featured as part of the most relevant business and technical tracks to highlight the technological advancements and mark critical trends developing in the industry. New tracks, as well as the recurring technical tracks, will address topics and sectors such as tissue, packaging, reliability, management, safety and energy, and others. Eminent keynote speakers from private and public companies and government will take the floor during the popular morning kick-off sessions and PaperWeek Business Luncheons. Industry transformation will also be at the forefront with the International Biorefinery Summit, the 3rd edition of FIBRE DAY, and the commercialization forum adding this world-class program.

A vibrant tradeshow will feature supplier companies who will have the opportunity to display their products and new technologies to the industry. Plus the highly acclaimed Seminar on Improving Paper Machine Efficiency & Productivity will be hosted by PAPTAC’s Papermaking Technology Community.

In recognizing that students constitute the workforce renewal in our imminent future, the PAPTAC Student Community, initiated in 2013, will be in charge of organizing the annual PaperWeek Canada Student Poster Session. The posters will be selected on the basis of their technical and quality content. This year, the University of Toronto will serve as the lead university in setting up a successful edition of this posted session under the supervision of PAPTAC.

The top industry Awards and Recognitions will once again be a key component of the event and colleagues, peers, and friends are all invited to the PAPTAC 100th Anniversary Banquet - a special evening with high-quality entertainment and dining.

PaperWeek Canada 2015 brings a platform of key players with whom participants can learn from and exchange ideas. The week also represents a unique opportunity to interact and share ideas at both a national and international level. As a matter of fact, over the years tens of thousands of industry personnel, including industry leaders, managers, superintendents, process engineers, technical staff, and operators have benefited both themselves and their operations by taking part in the event. We hope that you will be amongst those who join us in February for the premier pulp and paper event of the year..
