FPInnovations attended the 13th annual Vancouver Island Safety Conference held in Nanaimo, British Columbia on September 29, 2018.

More than 400 attendees took part, including representatives from government, the B.C. Forest Safety Council, WorkSafeBC, forestry workers, and safety program service providers and suppliers. The theme of this year's conference was "Managing Risk – Empowering Good Decisions."

Colin Koszman, an industry advisor at FPInnovations, presented highlights from some of FPInnovations' safety-related projects, including work involving steep slopes, faller webcams, and rollovers. To learn more, see page 9 of the conference's summary document, or view a video of the presentation here.

In parallel to the conference, attendees had access to a trade show introducing safety products and services. FPInnovations' collaborative work with lotatel Inc. on the FallerCAM device was displayed along with materials from other projects such as synthetic ropes and advanced boomsticks. The feedback from attendees who dropped by FPInnovations' booth was encouraging and rewarding.

Overall, the conference highlighted the improved safety culture and opportunities for continuous improvement in the industry's safety programs. FPInnovations will participate in and support this conference next year, and will continue to update the industry about its ongoing safety innovation initiatives.
