FPInnovations, in collaboration with British Columbia’s Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development, invites interested parties to a one-day symposium on bio-sourced materials, to be held March 11, 2019 in Vancouver’s Convention Centre.

Under the theme “Growing the Bioeconomy: Bio-sourced Materials for High-Tech Applications,” this event, held as part of the 2019 #BCTECHSummit, will bring together all major actors of the biomaterials industry.

The program will include sessions on green chemistry and scale-up theme, and will discuss high-tech applications in sectors such as nanocellulose, forest materials in additive manufacturing, and cellulose in construction materials. Panel sessions will discuss the opportunities and challenges for different aspects of bio-sources materials. During lunch break, participants will be invited to attend two 3D printing demonstrations using different materials.

The symposium aims to develop British Columbia as a world centre for high-tech applications for bio-sourced materials. The province is well situated to play a key role with its strong history of natural resource development, and encouraging environment of advanced bio-sourced materials manufacturing and high-tech start-ups.

The one-day symposium is intended to highlight the available opportunities, present the scientific, technological, and business landscape available to BC to nurture this development. It should attract researchers, engineers and entrepreneurs interested in creating new high-value added forest products from sustainable bio-sourced materials in a multitude of industrial applications in additive manufacturing, construction, electronics, biomedical, green chemistry and consumer goods.
