Advancing Large Landscape Approaches: Webinar Series

FSC

Join FSC Canada for a new webinar series exploring how forest managers, communities, Indigenous Peoples and partners play a role in advancing forest management and conservation, climate resilience and biodiversity at the landscape scale.

Large landscape approaches offer an opportunity to move beyond individual forest management units and consider how climate change, biodiversity, carbon, conservation and community priorities interact across broader landscapes. This four-part Webinar Series will bring together practical examples and FSC Canada established and emerging approaches to support uptake and action across Canada.

Webinar 1 | IFLs

October 14 | 11:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m. ET

Learn about the new normative requirements for Intact Forest Landscapes (IFLs) released with the revised Forest Stewardship Standard for Canada on July 1, 2026. Also explore with us the new Intact Forest Landscape Guidance which includes a tool to support Certificate Holders who wish to adopt the collaborative approach to determine ILF protection thresholds and core area locations. We will also be sure to leave space for questions.

Webinar 2 | Forests as Climate Solutions

December 15 | 11:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m. ET

What does it mean to advance Forests as Climate Solutions (FaCS) at the landscape scale? This session will explore practical approaches to climate adaptation, mitigating climate impacts, building forest resilience, supporting ecosystem integrity, and managing forest carbon, with a focus on integrating climate solutions into forest management and broader landscape strategies.

Webinar 3 | Advancing Biodiversity

January 12 | 11:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m. ET

The session will explore current and emerging conservation approaches—including caribou management, Conservation Area Networks, protected areas and OECMs, and restoration—and how landscape-scale FSC Canada forest management requirements can advance biodiversity conservation and restoration while responding to climate change, connectivity needs and other cumulative pressures. We will examine challenges and opportunities in implementing FSC requirements with a focus on practical approaches and opportunities for calibration and shared learning.

Webinar 4 | Large Landscape Approaches

February 9 | 11:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m. ET

The final session will bring together lessons from across the series to explore large landscape approaches in practice. We will examine how forest managers can integrate multiple values, planning priorities, tools and partnerships to identify synergies, manage trade-offs and achieve more efficient and effective outcomes across landscapes. We will also consider how FSC’s Ecosystem Services Procedure can drive climate-informed decision-making, strengthen ESG reporting and governance, and unlock new financing opportunities through credible, FSC-verified impacts.

For this session, we are looking for 2–3 certificate holders to share practical examples of how they have integrated priorities such as CAN, caribou management, intact forest landscapes, Indigenous Cultural Landscapes, high conservation values, climate and carbon into landscape planning and management. Speakers may highlight the processes, tools and partnerships they used to identify efficiencies, navigate trade-offs and drive outcomes across multiple objectives. If interested, please reach out to Vivian Peachey at This email address is being protected from spambots.
