BC Community Forest Association AGM

FSC

FSC Canada was pleased to attend the BC Community Forest Association Annual General Meeting, held in Vernon, BC, in early June.

The event provided an excellent opportunity to connect with community forest managers from across the province and discuss how FSC can support their goals and initiatives. At our exhibit, we highlighted FSC Canada’s Community Forest Standard and shared examples of recent FSC Verified Impact projects from across Canada.

Participants also enjoyed a field tour of the Monashee Community Forest, a partnership between Splatsin First Nation and the Village of Lumby. The tour offered valuable firsthand insights into innovative forest management practices, including wildfire risk reduction efforts and silvopasture prescriptions that integrate domestic grazing with forest management to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.

We feel that FSC Canada’s Community Forest Standard is strongly aligned with the values and objectives of community forests. We look forward to demonstrating this alignment through increased FSC certification and the expansion of FSC Verified Impact projects. Our goal is to help communities realize greater value from their forests by promoting fully traceable FSC-certified wood products and creating new revenue opportunities through Ecosystem Services Verified Impacts.

Currently, the Burns Lake Community Forest and the Harrop Proctor Community Forest are both FSC certified to the Community Forest Standard.
