FSC Canada is pleased to announce that Ryan Garbutt, RPF, has joined the organization as Regional Manager, Ontario.
In this role, Ryan will serve as FSC Canada's primary representative in the province, working with forest management organizations, license holders, woodlot owners, Indigenous Forest managers, and supply-chain partners to expand FSC-certified supply, strengthen market demand, and support the effective implementation of FSC standards across Ontario.
Ryan brings more than five years of experience in forestry operations and wood procurement, most recently as a Forestry Operations Supervisor with Weyerhaeuser in Alberta, where he led harvest planning and contractor oversight while ensuring compliance with environmental and forest certification requirements, and Forest Management Plans. He has also worked closely with Indigenous communities, government agencies, and independent contractors to deliver operational programs aligned with sustainable forest management objectives.
Prior to that role, Ryan served as a Purchase Wood Coordinator, procuring fibre from private and industrial sources, negotiating supply contracts, and coordinating log deliveries to meet mill demand. This work gave him hands-on experience ensuring log quality and Chain of Custody compliance, and a practical understanding of how certified fibre moves through the supply chain from forest to market.
Ryan holds an Honours Bachelor of Science in Forestry from Lakehead University, where he graduated with first-class standing and completed an undergraduate thesis in forest operations, as well as a Forestry Technician diploma from Sir Sandford Fleming College. He is a Registered Professional Forester with the Association of Alberta Forest Management Professionals, with his transfer to the Ontario Professional Foresters Association currently in progress. His technical background includes GIS and mapping systems, drone-based inventory assessment, and forest stand analysis.
Please join us in welcoming Ryan to the FSC Canada team.
