Aging Workforce and Rising Costs: The Hidden Threat to Traditional Industries

ResourceWise

The 135-year-old West Linn Paper Mill in Oregon plans to lay off workers this week and may shut down permanently at the end of the month.

This is a non-integrated printing and writing mill (coated publication) with a high technical age.

What caught my attention in the news is one of the complaints from the owners: the lack of a readily available workforce in small communities and rising production costs related to it. With several countries showing an aging population and low population growth, could the lack of people eager to work in traditional industries be a cause for concern?
