U.S. Recovered Paper Exports Down 11% in 2024

In 2024, U.S. exports of recovered paper decreased by 11% compared to 2023, dropping from 13.45 million metric tons to 12.07 million metric tons, according to U.S. Census Bureau trade data (https://www.bea.gov/)

India remained the largest market for U.S. recovered fiber, importing 2.09 million metric tons, accounting for 17% of total exports.

By grade, old corrugated containers (OCC) comprised 68% of exports, mixed paper 15%, high-grade deinked paper 10%, newsprint 3%, and bleached pulp paperboard scrap and mechanical pulp paper scrap together accounted for the remaining 4%.
