LEBANON, Ohio — August 10, 2026 — Kadant Black Clawson LLC, a subsidiary of Kadant Inc. (NYSE: KAI), recently announced the successful startup of a new green liquor system at Södra’s mill in Mörrum, Sweden.
Kadant Black Clawson, in collaboration with Kadant Noss AB, developed the system following a detailed evaluation of the mill’s operating environment to meet site-specific process requirements while supporting long-term sustainability and profitability objectives. The solution upgrades Södra’s green liquor processing with the installation of a green liquor clarifier (GLC) and a dregs precoat filter (DPF). The GLC is designed to handle 100 liters per second and delivers high-quality green liquor, with dregs efficiently removed by the DPF.
Kadant’s green liquor clarifier features the Uniform Flow Design feedwell and Uniform Liquor Removal bustle pipe, producing ultra-clean green liquor while reducing capital and operating costs. By lowering dregs dead load in both liquor and mud circuits, the design improves recausticizing efficiency and reduces energy consumption. Kadant’s dregs precoat filter recovers green liquor from the clarifier underflow while producing a low-moisture, low-chemical cake that is environmentally non-hazardous and suitable for landfill disposal. Together, the system delivers high filtration capacity, efficient chemical recovery, and cost savings for the mill.
“Kadant’s high-efficiency solution supports our growing production goals and delivers the level of performance we need to remain competitive in an increasingly challenging market,” stated Leif Sjöblom, strategic purchaser investments at Södra. Södra selected the Kadant recausticizing solution following a comprehensive evaluation of available technologies. The project included site-specific engineering and end-to-end maintenance support, leveraging Kadant’s extensive experience and long-standing Goslin legacy in chemical pulp recausticizing systems.
