Canada-US softwood lumber conflict dragging on

In the past few decades, it seems, there has been one complex issue that simply refuses to disappear from the highly substantial commercial relationship between the United States and Canada.

For more than 30 years, softwood lumber has been a festering bilateral trade irritant – with a series of breakdowns triggering U.S. tariffs followed by agreements that do not take long to expire. The twists and turns have been continuing, though arguably these days not to the advantage of the U.S. home buyer.
