The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) and the Northwest Pulp & Paper Association (NWPPA) have issued a joint statement following this week’s deadly incident at the Nippon Dynawave Packaging mill in Longview, Washington.

The organizations expressed their condolences to the families of those killed in the incident, as well as to those who were injured. They also voiced support for mill workers, members of the Association of Western Pulp and Paper Workers (AWPPW), and the broader Longview community.

“Our deepest sympathies go to everyone affected by this week’s tragedy in Longview,” the associations said in a joint statement.

AF&PA and NWPPA also thanked local emergency responders, including Longview Fire and Cowlitz 2 Fire and Rescue, for their efforts during the rescue and recovery operation.

The groups emphasized that safety remains a core value across the pulp and paper industry and called for a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident.

“We support efforts to fully understand the root cause of this incident and identify measures that can help prevent similar tragedies in the future,” the statement said.

Investigations into the incident remain ongoing.

The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) represents U.S. manufacturers of paper, packaging, tissue and wood products. The industry employs more than 925,000 people and produces approximately $435 billion in products annually.
