Arauco, a global leader in the forest industry, has selected AFRY for an EPCM (Engineering, Procurement, Construction Management) role in its groundbreaking greenfield pulp mill project in Inocência, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil.

This $4.6 billion investment will establish the world’s largest pulp mill, with an annual production capacity of 3.5 million tonnes of bleached eucalyptus kraft pulp. The mill is slated to begin operations in the latter half of 2027.

AFRY’s scope includes detailed engineering, procurement, and construction management for the Balance of Plant (BOP). This encompasses critical interconnections between primary production units and auxiliary facilities, such as turbine generators, water intake and effluent disposal systems, cooling towers, and the central control room. AFRY has been involved since the project's early stages, contributing to conceptual studies, environmental licensing, and site infrastructure development.

“We are proud to support Arauco in achieving this milestone, reinforcing sustainable practices and innovative technologies. This project further solidifies our position in Latin America as a key player in pulp and paper engineering,” said Fábio Bellotti da Fonseca, Head of AFRY Process Industries Latin and North America.

The mill will feature advanced technologies designed to maximise energy efficiency, minimise environmental impact, and reduce operational costs, aligning with Arauco's commitment to sustainable development.

Arauco, originally from Chile, operates globally with a presence in over 75 countries, focusing on renewable forest products to meet sustainability challenges. AFRY, a leading engineering and design firm, brings decades of expertise to large-scale industrial projects worldwide, including the pulp and paper sector.
