The Government of Canada has announced a significant investment aimed at restoring wildfire-damaged areas in Northern Ontario.
The Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, revealed that more than $900,000 will be allocated to Integrity Reforestation for a large-scale reforestation project in the Ogoki Forest.
The initiative will focus on planting 800,000 trees over 450 hectares to rehabilitate ecosystems affected by recent wildfires. It aims to restore critical habitats for woodland caribou, moose, and black bears while creating more than 40 tree-planting jobs in the region.
The project, part of Canada’s broader 2 Billion Trees program, emphasizes using native species to support biodiversity and promote climate resilience. The government’s collaboration with Integrity Reforestation reflects a shared commitment to environmental restoration and sustainable development.
The 2 Billion Trees (2BT) program is a key initiative under the Government of Canada’s broader strategy for nature-based climate solutions. It aims to plant two billion trees across the country, working in collaboration with provinces, territories, municipalities, Indigenous Peoples, and non-profit and for-profit organizations to create lasting environmental, social, and economic benefits.
