The Canadian federal government is taking action to ensure that the country's largest pulp producer, Paper Excellence, adheres to federal and provincial laws and regulations.

In a statement to the media, federal Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson promised to hold Paper Excellence and other companies accountable. The move comes after an investigation by CBC News and other media outlets, which found that the company has a complex corporate structure that effectively shields transactions and assets from public and government scrutiny.

The matter is expected to be debated at the House of Commons natural resources committee meeting on March 31.
