Cascades Inc. has announced the permanent closure of paper machine number 2 at its Niagara Falls mill in New York.

The machine, one of the oldest in the Containerboard platform, has been temporarily shut down since November 2022. Its closure is due to the need for significant investments to remain competitive.

Approximately 40 positions will be impacted, but most of them are currently vacant or will be subject to attrition. Cascades aims to minimize the impact on employees.

The decision aligns with the company's strategy to optimize operations and focus on advanced technology. Despite challenges in the paper industry, Cascades remains committed to the region and its long-term viability.
