The Canadian Mill Services Association (CMSA) has acquired the Quality Control (QC) operations of the BC Council of Forest Industries (COFI).
This merger aims to enhance cost-effectiveness and ensure the continued delivery of high-quality standards in the face of industry challenges.
The acquisition includes the transfer of COFI and Interior Lumber Manufacturers’ (ILMA) grade stamps, employees, and QC services to CMSA. Former COFI customers are encouraged to join CMSA as active members.
"This merger will make us stronger together," stated Kris Reklinski, CMSA General Manager. "It will allow us to deliver cost-effective quality control, grade inspections, and educational services to the combined membership."
The combined services will provide third-party grade stamping, plant health certification, and supporting educational services. CMSA will continue to represent its members with the Canadian Wood Council and maintain memberships with relevant industry associations.
The acquisition reflects the increasing challenges faced by the BC forest industry, including mill closures, curtailments, and diminishing skilled inspector resources.
The revised CMSA Board of Directors will include representatives from both COFI and CMSA.
