In a strategic move to bolster its position in the thermal paper sector, Domtar Corporation announced it has acquired the North American point-of-sale (POS) receipt business of Iconex Paper from Atlas Holdings.

This acquisition marks a significant step for Domtar in expanding its footprint in the thermal paper market, a niche but essential segment serving high-demand industries like food service, retail, and financial services.

The acquisition includes Iconex’s five production facilities located in Arizona, Kansas, Tennessee, Virginia, and Mexico, which specialize in converting thermal paper parent rolls into POS receipt rolls. These rolls are widely used in everyday transactions, from ATM slips and gas pump receipts to retail checkout and food service transactions. With this deal, Domtar will leverage its existing manufacturing capacity at its West Carrollton, Ohio, facility to streamline the supply chain, offering a more integrated and reliable source for POS paper products across North America.

“Receipt products that consumers encounter daily start with thermal paper manufactured at Domtar’s West Carrollton facility,” said Steve Henry, Domtar’s President of Paper and Packaging. “This acquisition positions us to ensure operational and supply chain excellence for our customers through a fully integrated North American receipt paper business.” Henry also underscored Domtar’s commitment to sustainability, noting that the acquisition strengthens their advocacy for paper-based products and their role in the long-term sustainability of the industry.

Mike Rapier, President of Iconex Paper, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, saying, “All of us at Iconex Paper recognize it’s an exciting time at Domtar, and we’re pleased to be part of the business’s growth.” Rapier will continue to lead Iconex Paper under Domtar’s management, working alongside senior leadership to explore new market opportunities and strengthen customer offerings.
