Domtar’s Clarion™ POS 48S phenol-free thermal paper has been qualified for use with Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions’ TCx® Print S10 printer, expanding the range of receipt papers validated for use with Toshiba’s point-of-sale equipment.
Toshiba’s assessment included print-quality and lifecycle testing. According to the companies, the paper demonstrated consistent image quality, barcode readability and reliable performance under demanding retail operating conditions.
Clarion POS 48S is manufactured without detectable phenolic compounds, including bisphenol A (BPA), bisphenol S (BPS) and related substances. Domtar developed the thermal paper to help retailers respond to evolving regulatory requirements and consumer demand for alternatives to conventional receipt media without disrupting point-of-sale operations.
Hillary Crawford, product manager for thermal and technical paper at Domtar, said the qualification confirms the paper’s compatibility with the Toshiba printer and its ability to meet the performance requirements of daily retail transactions.
Toshiba said the validation gives converters, distributors and retailers greater confidence when pairing Clarion POS 48S with the TCx Print S10. The printer is designed to provide fast and consistent performance across a range of retail environments.
Domtar also reports that Clarion POS was the first thermal receipt paper certified as recyclable by Western Michigan University after completing its SBS-E testing protocol. The certification provides third-party verification of the paper’s recyclability under the conditions used in the testing process.
The companies said they will explore further technical collaboration related to retail printing and sustainability.
Domtar is a privately held manufacturer of pulp, paper, packaging, tissue and wood products. The company employs more than 13,000 people at over 60 locations across North America. Its Clarion portfolio includes phenol-free thermal papers developed for retail receipt applications.
Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions provides technology, software and services for the retail sector. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Toshiba Tec Corporation, which is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
