Sofidel Group has announced plans to significantly expand its operations at the Duluth paper mill.
The company aims to invest at least $180 million, potentially reaching $250 million, in the project, which is expected to create 160 new jobs.
The expansion will include adding a conversion facility and automated warehouse to the mill, increasing its production capacity and efficiency. The city of Duluth is supporting the project with tax-increment financing assistance.
Sofidel acquired the Duluth mill earlier this year and has a history of making substantial investments in its newly acquired properties. The company's other U.S. investments include a greenfield plant in Circleville, Ohio, and a production plant in Inola, Oklahoma.
The Duluth expansion is expected to bring employment levels back to pre-pandemic levels and further strengthen Sofidel's presence in the U.S. market.
