Georgia-Pacific has announced the completion of a nearly $550 million investment at its Green Bay Broadway Facility, marking a significant expansion in production capabilities.
The project includes a state-of-the-art through-air-dried (TAD) paper machine and three new converting lines, aimed at producing premium Brawny® paper towels and private label brands for the retail market.
This expansion, which began construction in July 2022, highlights Georgia-Pacific's commitment to modernizing its production processes with cutting-edge automation. The TAD machine and the associated converting equipment reduce manual operations by about 85%, allowing highly automated technology to drive much of the production process. As a result, new technology-focused roles have been created to manage the sophisticated systems.
“Today is an exciting day for Georgia-Pacific,” said John Nundahl, vice president of manufacturing at Georgia-Pacific. “After more than two years of hard work, this investment brings over 100 full-time jobs, enhanced technology, and increased production capabilities. Our facility is now better positioned to meet the growing demand for Brawny® towels and premium private-label brands.”
The Green Bay Broadway facility now employs over 1,000 full-time workers, making it a key contributor to Georgia-Pacific’s away-from-home and retail businesses. Since 2006, Georgia-Pacific has invested approximately $1.2 billion in its Green Bay operations, focusing on integrating advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, laser-guided vehicles, and data analytics to optimize production safety and efficiency.
Georgia-Pacific operates five facilities in Wisconsin, providing nearly 2,000 direct jobs across the state. With this latest investment, the company is reinforcing its long-term commitment to the region’s economic and technological growth.
