Georgia-Pacific has officially opened its new Dixie® tableware manufacturing facility in Jackson, Tennessee.
This $425 million plant, first announced in 2022, marks the company’s first greenfield facility for Dixie® products since 1991. The new site will produce a range of disposable tableware, including Dixie® and Dixie Ultra® plates, bowls, and platters for both retail and commercial markets.
The new facility, which began operations in June 2024, is expected to significantly boost the supply of disposable tableware. According to Fernando Gonzalez, president of Georgia-Pacific’s consumer products group, the Jackson site was chosen for its strong manufacturing base and the potential to meet growing consumer demand. Gonzalez also highlighted that the facility will create over 220 new jobs, offering a modern, climate-controlled work environment.
Located on a 241-acre site at 65 Cardinal Drive in West Jackson, the plant is strategically positioned near Interstate 40, state Highway 223, and nearby rail services, ensuring an efficient supply chain.
Mike Cook, plant director, praised the collaboration with the Jackson community, noting that local support helped make the facility a reality. Cook emphasized the plant’s role in supporting Dixie’s top spot in the tableware market while fostering talent within the workforce.
Georgia-Pacific has also committed to community partnerships, including supporting the Leaders Education Foundation with scholarships for students at Tennessee’s technical colleges. The company collaborates with several local organizations, such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of Jackson, Jackson State Community College, and the Greater Jackson Chamber.
With over 600 employees across seven Tennessee facilities, Georgia-Pacific plays a major role in the state’s economy. The company’s operations contribute $118 million in labor income through direct and indirect jobs. Since 2011, Georgia-Pacific has invested more than $675 million in Tennessee, with plans to invest an additional $20 million in a corrugated plant in Lebanon, Tennessee.
