Green Bay Packaging (GBP) has announced a major investment to modernize its Arkansas Kraft paper mill.
This multi-year project aims to upgrade key infrastructure, enhance efficiency, and position the mill for long-term sustainability.
The modernization plan includes replacing crucial equipment like the recovery boiler and biomass boiler systems. Additionally, GBP will install an electric turbine generator – a key element in their decarbonization strategy. This turbine is expected to significantly reduce the mill's greenhouse gas emissions. The project also involves acquiring land for future expansion, demonstrating GBP's commitment to the mill's long-term viability.
Will Kress, Chairman and CEO of Green Bay Packaging, emphasized the mill's legacy and the importance of this investment for maintaining competitiveness. Matt Szymanski, Vice President of Mill Operations, highlighted the role of the workforce and community support in enabling such investments.
The project underscores GBP's commitment to innovation, sustainability, and the Arkansas economy, where it has been operating for over five decades. The company plans to work closely with the state of Arkansas to implement these improvements, which are expected to ensure the mill's sustainable operation for years to come.
