Hood Container Boosts Fiber Recapture with Box to Nature Program

Industry News

Hood Container has partnered with the Paper and Packaging Board’s (P+PB) Box to Nature program, an initiative aimed at increasing residential box recycling rates and recapturing more fiber for industry use.

Box to Nature, developed in collaboration with paper and corrugated manufacturing companies, works with e-commerce brands to print a recycling graphic on their packaging. The graphic provides clear recycling instructions—empty, flatten, recycle—along with a QR code directing consumers to Box2Nature.org, where they can find additional recycling resources and tips.

Consumer research conducted prior to the program’s launch found that 75% of respondents were more likely to recycle their e-commerce boxes after seeing the Box to Nature graphic. With residential recycling rates estimated at only 40% by The Recycling Partnership, this initiative seeks to drive significant improvements in consumer recycling habits.

“Putting the Box to Nature graphic on every box not only helps customers understand how easy it is to recycle properly, but also reinforces a brand’s commitment to sustainability,” said Mary Anne Hansan, president of P+PB. “With the rise of e-commerce, improving residential recycling is more critical than ever. Research shows that two out of three consumers admit to not always recycling, and our goal is to change that behavior.”

By joining Box to Nature, Hood Container aligns itself with industry-wide sustainability efforts and helps brands enhance their environmental credibility while ensuring more fiber is recovered for future paper-based products.
