International Paper has finalized its $360 million acquisition of North Pacific Paper Company (NORPAC), adding a major producer of lightweight recycled packaging papers to its operations in the U.S. Pacific Northwest.
The acquisition brings NORPAC’s Longview, Washington mill into International Paper’s manufacturing network and strengthens the company’s position in the market for lightweight packaging grades used in corrugated packaging applications.
Strengthening West Coast operations
Based in Longview, Washington, NORPAC produces lightweight recycled packaging papers designed to reduce material use while maintaining strength and performance. The mill has been operating for nearly 50 years and has established itself as a supplier of lightweight packaging grades in the western United States.
The addition of NORPAC is expected to enhance International Paper’s ability to serve customers across the West Coast, where demand for sustainable and high-performance packaging materials continues to grow.
Strategic fit and growth focus
International Paper said the acquisition supports its ongoing transformation into a more packaging-focused company.
Tom Hamic, Executive Vice President and President of Packaging Solutions North America, said NORPAC’s operations complement the company’s existing manufacturing network and will help meet increasing demand for lightweight packaging solutions.
Craig Anneberg, NORPAC’s CEO, described the transaction as an important milestone for both the company and the Longview community.
“Joining International Paper gives us the opportunity to build on the foundation we have created while continuing our commitment to employees, customers and the local community,” Anneberg said.
Supporting long-term value creation
The acquisition forms part of International Paper’s broader strategy to strengthen its packaging business and expand its presence in key regional markets.
Headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee, International Paper is one of the world’s largest producers of fiber-based packaging products and continues to focus investments on corrugated packaging and related markets.
Prior to the transaction, NORPAC was owned by private equity firm One Rock Capital Partners. The company has adapted its operations over the years to meet changing market, technological, and environmental requirements while maintaining a focus on recycled packaging papers.
