Irving Pulp & Paper and Irving Tissue Saint John have successfully concluded a major 15-day shutdown, completing critical upgrades and maintenance without a single safety incident.

This achievement underlines the company’s strong commitment to operational excellence and a culture that prioritizes workplace safety.

With an investment of over $34 million, this planned shutdown enabled substantial improvements across virtually all operational areas of the two mills. Upgrades included essential boiler inspections and repairs, as well as the installation of a new tissue machine winder. These enhancements are aimed at bolstering the mills' efficiency and ensuring their long-term sustainability in the competitive paper and tissue market.

During the peak of the shutdown, more than 1,750 employees and contractors worked on-site, creating significant employment opportunities for skilled local workers. This surge in workforce not only provided a boost to the local economy but also underscored the project’s ambitious scale and complexity.

Dennis Mott, Mill Manager at Irving Pulp & Paper, expressed pride in the successful completion of the shutdown: “With the significant increase of employees and contractors on-site, we are extremely pleased with the outcome of this major shutdown. Accomplishing this milestone without any safety incidents highlights the commitment and dedication of all employees and contractors to maintaining a safe work environment.”
