Irving Tissue celebrated the fifth anniversary of its Macon, Georgia, facility on November 21 with a significant announcement: a $600 million expansion project.
Company President Robert K. Irving revealed the plans during a ceremony attended by Pat Wilson, Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, and Robert E. Fountain, Jr., Chair of the Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority.
The project, dubbed "Phase 3," will introduce a third ThruAir Dry paper-making machine, additional converting lines, and a fully automated warehouse. The investment will create 100 new jobs, adding to the more than 400 existing positions at the plant.
“This expansion supports growth not only in Macon but also in our home region of Maine and New Brunswick, where our pulp supply chain begins,” Irving said, highlighting the company’s sustainable forestry practices, which include planting over one billion trees since 1957.
Since its establishment in 2017, Irving Tissue has invested approximately $1.5 billion in Macon, producing premium tissue and paper towel products. Governor Brian Kemp praised the company as a vital contributor to Georgia’s economy and an exemplary employer in the region.
The expansion will boost the plant’s annual ThruAir Dry capacity by 75,000 tonnes, increasing its total output to 225,000 tonnes, equivalent to 45 million cases of product annually.
Irving Tissue, part of Irving Consumer Products, is a key supplier of household paper products in North America, including the Royale brand in Canada.
