Mercer Celgar has partnered with Skemxist Solutions, an Osoyoos Indian Band (OIB) company, to operate a log sort yard in Okanagan Falls.

The collaboration emphasizes sustainable forestry, community development, and cultural respect.

The log sort yard will maximize fibre utilization, including fire-damaged timber, while creating skilled jobs for OIB members. Mercer is supporting training programs to ensure participants gain expertise for long-term forestry careers.

“This partnership reflects what we can achieve together—economic stability, sustainable practices, and meaningful opportunities,” said Mike Lynn, Senior Manager at Mercer Celgar.

Led by the OIB, Skemxist ensures hiring and operations respect cultural traditions. The project highlights how collaboration can drive progress while honoring Indigenous values.

Based in British Columbia, Mercer Celgar is a leader in sustainable forestry, supplying softwood pulp and forest products to global markets with a decades-long commitment to maximizing resource utilization and environmental stewardship.
