Mercer Peace River Pulp Ltd. and Woodland Cree First Nation have renewed their co-ownership agreement for Peace River Logging, solidifying a partnership that began in 2004.

The agreement ensures the long-term sustainability of the joint venture, which employs over 80 locals and is recognized as one of the region’s most successful logging operations.

Roger Ashfield, Managing Director of Mercer Peace River, emphasized the partnership’s foundation of mutual respect and shared goals for sustainable forestry. Chief Isaac Laboucan-Avirom of Woodland Cree highlighted the agreement’s role in supporting both responsible forestry and the economic future of his community.

The renewed collaboration underscores both parties’ commitment to sustainable forest management and Indigenous economic development. Mercer Peace River, a subsidiary of Mercer International Inc., manages 2.7 million hectares of forest in northern Alberta, producing high-quality pulp while prioritizing environmental stewardship.
