Colleagues from Domtar’s Canadian-based mills are among industry leaders presenting this week at the first-ever virtual PaperWeek Canada 2021, sharing lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic and more.
This flagship conference of Pulp & Paper Technical Association of Canada welcomes attendees from across the industry. The annual event offers participants the opportunity to network, exchange ideas and best practices, and learn about new technologies from experts based around the world.
The PaperWeek Canada 2021 agenda focuses on best practices for optimization, reliability, asset management and, of course, management and operations in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

COVID-19, Managing in Crisis and More
PaperWeek Canada 2021 virtual presentations will include the following Domtar professionals:
- Eric Ashby, vice president of paper manufacturing, will participate in the keynote panel, discussing COVID-19’s effects on Canada’s forestry industry. He also will moderate a discussion on dealing with significant safety events and ensuring the sustainability of preventative safety measures.
- Sylvain Bricault, Windsor Mill manager, will moderate a discussion on “Management adaptation during times of crisis … What will be the new norm to attract, develop and retain employees?”
- Hazel Babu and Olivia Carter, both Dryden Mill process engineers, and John O’Donnell, Ashdown Mill fiber line operations director, will participate in sessions dedicated to bleaching.
- Babu will focus on statistical process control, a technology that aids in consistent process operations.
- Carter will discuss bleach plant continuous improvement initiatives that introduced significant costs savings at the Dryden Mill.
- O’Donnell will discuss collaboration to strengthen financial position.
