The provincial government on Tuesday announced it had halted authorized logging operations along the Péribonka River in the Lac-Saint-Jean region, and that the area would be designated a protected zone.
“The Péribonka River is a jewel of our natural heritage and we must protect it,” said Quebec Environment Minister Benoit Charette in a communiqué.
