Smurfit Westrock has announced a significant $40 million investment in its Warwick (Quebec) plant.
This substantial investment will see the addition of 65,000 square feet to the existing facility, along with the installation of a state-of-the-art, fully automated, large-format production line.
The expansion project, set to be completed over the next 16 months, will also include increased storage space for both raw materials and finished products. To support this growth, the company plans to create approximately 25 new jobs over the next three years, with ten positions available immediately.
The company’s focus on environmental sustainability remains a priority. Currently, 60% of the plant’s production is made from fully recycled cardboard, and 98% of its products are recyclable. Smurfit Westrock continues to reduce its environmental impact through innovations and investments in green technology.
In addition to the investment, a new 10-year collective bargaining agreement has been signed, ensuring stable working conditions for employees until 2035. Pascal Marcoux, the plant's general manager, praised the agreement as a key factor in moving the project forward, emphasizing that it enhances both worker security and investor confidence.
The Warwick plant is part of Smurfit Westrock's broader network of 500 production centers in over 40 countries, making the company the world’s largest sustainable packaging producer after a recent merger. Smurfit Westrock's Canadian operations alone have seen more than $150 million in investments over the past five years, further solidifying its market leadership in North America.
