Sonoco Products Co., a leading packaging manufacturer based in South Carolina, has announced it will close its RTS Packaging facility in Scarborough, Maine, by the end of June 2025.
The decision, driven by rising costs and weakening demand in the folding carton market, will result in 67 job losses.
Employees were notified on March 13, and the company has filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) with the Maine Department of Labor. The facility, located at 16 Washington Ave., has operated since 1987 and became part of Sonoco’s portfolio in 1997 through a joint venture with Rock Tenn Co. Sonoco took full ownership of RTS in 2023.
