UFP Industries plans to establish a new wood packaging manufacturing facility in Cherokee County, South Carolina, expanding its structural packaging capacity and its ability to serve industrial customers.
The project is expected to involve approximately US$5.31 million in investment in real property, machinery and equipment. UFP expects the facility to create 136 jobs over five years.
The proposed plant will manufacture wood-based packaging products for industrial customers, including companies with complex shipping, storage and product-protection requirements. It will operate within UFP Packaging’s Structural Packaging business, which produces customized solutions using wood, steel, foam and combinations of different materials.
UFP said the added capacity is intended to support its higher-margin packaging strategy, expand its geographic reach and improve service to national industrial customers. The company expects the location to enhance production flexibility and provide closer access to key customers and transportation corridors.
UFP Industries said it selected South Carolina for its manufacturing base, skilled workforce and business environment. The company did not announce a construction schedule or anticipated opening date.
The project remains subject to customary approvals and the completion of related agreements.
