Two major Canadian pulp and paper unions, Unifor and the Public and Private Workers of Canada (PPWC), have chosen Kruger, Inc. in Kamloops, B.C. as the target for establishing pattern bargaining across the Western Canadian forestry sector.
This strategic move aims to strengthen workers' positions and advocate for a brighter future in the industry.
The unions, representing 5,500 members from 18 local unions in B.C. and Alberta, plan to begin collective bargaining in early 2025. Unifor National President Lana Payne emphasized the importance of solidarity and collaboration in building and protecting good jobs in the forestry sector. PPWC President Geoff Dawe expressed pride in continuing the partnership for strategic pattern bargaining.
This round of negotiations is expected to set the pattern for workers in a crucial sector of Canada's economy, with both unions committed to securing a strong agreement that will benefit their members in the coming years.
