Western Forest Products Inc. has concluded its 90-day working group process for the Alberni-Pacific Division (APD) facility and has begun negotiations on proposals it has received.

The company had previously announced that it would not restart its APD facility in its current configuration and established a multi-party working group to explore viable industrial manufacturing solutions for the site.

The company has expressed its gratitude towards the working group members for their contributions and commitment to finding the best possible path forward for APD. Western's President and CEO Steven Hofer stated that while the outcome of the negotiations is uncertain, the working group process has provided an important step forward to finding a positive solution for APD.

The APD facility has been curtailed since fall 2022, and operations will remain curtailed through the negotiations. However, the company expects to provide an update by the end of the second quarter of 2023 regarding the negotiations and due diligence processes related to the proposals received.
