On 5 December 2024, EUROSAC and CEPI Eurokraft announced their inclusion in the Paper Sacks Go Circular Spain alliance, which unites 50 European companies aiming to promote efficient waste management and boost circularity in paper sack recycling.
In Spain, approximately 29,000 tonnes of paper sacks for building materials like cement and plaster are placed on the market annually, but only a small percentage are currently recycled.
One key success has been Calaf Constructora, which pioneered a waste sorting system at a construction site for a hospital project, leading to reduced environmental impact, cost savings, and improved waste management. The alliance has facilitated the collection and processing of paper sacks for recycling, ensuring these materials are repurposed for new products.
As the alliance grows, it aims to increase recycling rates, boost resource efficiency, and reduce landfill waste across Europe.
