DS Smith Packaging has announced a €34 million investment in Hungary to enhance operations at its Füzesabony, Nagykáta, and Győr sites.
The strategic initiative, supported by the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency, aims to increase manufacturing capacity by over 40% and improve sustainability and innovation in packaging solutions. The projects are set to be completed by April 2026.
“This investment strengthens our Eastern European presence, boosts our manufacturing capabilities, and advances sustainable packaging solutions,” said Reinier Schlatmann, Managing Director of DS Smith Packaging East Europe.
Key Highlights of the Investment:
- Füzesabony: A new, state-of-the-art facility focused on automation and innovation, set to be operational by the end of 2024.
- Győr: Installation of new converting equipment in 2025 to enhance efficiency and support the development of plastic replacement packaging.
- Nagykáta: Modernization of the corrugator in 2025 to improve board quality and energy efficiency, meeting evolving customer demands.
Additionally, DS Smith is investing in environmental education with the establishment of three eco-classrooms, including one in Füzesabony, designed to foster ecological awareness among children.
Operating in Hungary for nearly 30 years, DS Smith has eight locations and over 1,000 employees delivering fiber-based packaging solutions to hundreds of regional customers. This investment aligns with DS Smith's Now & Next sustainability strategy, focused on advancing the circular economy and redefining packaging for a changing world.
