Metsäliitto Raises Stake in Metsä Fibre to 55.2%

Metsä Group’s parent company, Metsäliitto Cooperative, has increased its ownership in Metsä Fibre Oy following the completion of a share transaction with Itochu Corporation.

The transaction, finalized on February 4, 2026, involved Metsäliitto acquiring a 5.1% stake in Metsä Fibre from Itochu. As a result, Metsäliitto’s ownership has risen to 55.2%, strengthening its position as the majority shareholder.

Itochu now holds 19.9% of Metsä Fibre’s total share capital and will continue as a committed minority shareholder. According to the companies, the long-standing commercial cooperation between Metsä Group and Itochu remains unchanged following the transaction.

The ownership share of the third shareholder, Metsä Board Corporation, remains stable at 24.9%.

Metsä Fibre is a key industrial subsidiary within Metsä Group, which is rooted in Finnish forestry and owned by more than 90,000 forest owners through Metsäliitto Cooperative. The group operates across wood supply and forest services, wood products, pulp, paperboards, and tissue and greaseproof papers, with a strong emphasis on regenerative forestry.
