Mondi has announced the completion of a €95 million investment at its Świecie containerboard mill in Poland.
This significant upgrade, which was previously announced, will boost the mill's kraftliner production capacity by 55,000 tonnes per annum.
The comprehensive project included an extensive rebuild of paper machines PM2 and PM5, the installation of a new anaerobic treatment plant with an integrated cooling system, and upgrades to the pulp mill, recycled fibre line, and energy recovery system. These improvements are set to enhance the mill's efficiency and sustainability profile.
The investment addresses the growing customer demand for heavy-duty packaging for large and heavy products. It also aims to improve product quality while bolstering the mill's environmental performance by reducing water consumption and wastewater emissions, as well as increasing energy efficiency.
Since the project's completion in June, Mondi Świecie has expanded its ProVantage SmartKraft Brown portfolio, offering a broader range of grammage options. This brown kraftliner product boasts exceptional strength and enhanced runnability, meeting diverse packaging demands while prioritizing environmental responsibility.
Tomasz Katewicz, Managing Director of Mondi Świecie, expressed pride in the project's completion, stating, "This marks a milestone for Mondi Świecie, enabling us to advance our operations and deliver even higher-quality paper to our customers."
The investment aligns with Mondi's commitment to operating efficiently and progressing towards the goals outlined in its Mondi Action Plan 2030 (MAP 2030) sustainability framework. It also demonstrates the Group's strong commitment to the region by providing competitive, high-quality employment and contributing to the area's economic prosperity.
