Mondi has completed a series of operational upgrades at two corrugated packaging plants in Germany as part of its ongoing integration of assets acquired from Schumacher Packaging.

The investments at the Greven facility in North Rhine-Westphalia and the Ebersdorf plant in Bavaria are designed to enhance production efficiency, product quality and customer service while supporting the long-term competitiveness of Mondi’s German corrugated packaging business.

According to Mondi, the projects include upgrades to existing production equipment, process optimisation initiatives and measures aimed at improving reliability and reducing waste.

At the Ebersdorf plant, the company continues to expand pallet-free production, a system that reduces handling requirements, supports more resource-efficient manufacturing and helps ensure more consistent product quality. In Greven, additional automation has been introduced to stabilise production processes, cut material losses and enhance overall output quality.

Mondi has also established a dedicated onsite sales team at the Greven facility. The company said the move will allow for closer collaboration with customers, faster response times and the development of more tailored corrugated packaging solutions.

Integration and operational improvements

The two facilities became part of Mondi following the acquisition of Schumacher Packaging’s Western European assets. Since then, the company has been rolling out its operational excellence framework and global standards across both sites to improve consistency, performance and service levels.

Paulus Goëss, COO Corrugated Solutions at Mondi, said the upgrades are intended to support reliable product quality, delivery performance and more sustainable manufacturing processes while strengthening the company’s corrugated packaging operations in Germany.

Safety standards aligned

Alongside the production investments, Mondi has aligned health and safety practices at both facilities with its global benchmarks.

The company said improvements to the working environment and dedicated safety training programmes have been introduced to strengthen workplace safety, embed safety in day-to-day routines and support stable, reliable operations.

The upgrades form part of Mondi’s ongoing integration of the acquired facilities and its efforts to improve operational performance, service levels and production reliability.

Mondi is a global packaging and paper company employing approximately 22,000 people across more than 30 countries. The company develops sustainable packaging and paper solutions for a wide range of consumer and industrial markets.
