Oji Fibre Solutions (OjiFS) has announced plans to discontinue paper production at its Kinleith Mill, a significant move aimed at stabilizing and strengthening the company.

The decision to focus on pulp production and cease paper manufacturing comes after a period of sustained losses in the paper business. By transitioning to an import model for paper packaging, OjiFS aims to improve its overall financial performance.

The proposed changes will impact approximately 230 jobs at the Kinleith Mill. The company is committed to working closely with affected employees during the consultation process, which will extend through early January 2025.

OjiFS will continue to operate the Kinleith Mill until the end of June 2025 to fulfill existing customer orders and ensure a smooth transition to new supply arrangements. The company's wastepaper collection service, OjiFS Fullcircle, will remain unaffected.

While the decision to close paper production at Kinleith Mill is a difficult one, OjiFS believes it is necessary to secure the long-term viability of the company.
