The European Commission has approved Saica Group's acquisition of Thimm Group operations in Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic and Romania, allowing the Spanish packaging producer to move ahead with the integration of the acquired business.

Approved on July 23, the transaction includes nine corrugated packaging plants and one preprint facility, significantly expanding Saica's manufacturing footprint in Central and Eastern Europe.

Acquisition adds capacity and workforce

The acquisition adds approximately 1.2 billion square metres of corrugated production capacity and approximately 2,500 employees to Saica Group.

The acquired operations include corrugated packaging plants in Alzey, Wolnzach, Eberswalde, Castrop-Rauxel and Northeim in Germany, Tychy and Skarbimierz in Poland, Všetaty in the Czech Republic and Sibiu in Romania, along with a preprint facility in Ilsenburg, Germany.

With regulatory approval secured, Saica has begun integrating the newly acquired operations.

Expanding its European footprint

Saica said the acquisition represents a significant step in its long-term growth strategy, bringing the company closer to customers across Central and Eastern Europe while strengthening local manufacturing and supply capabilities.

President and CEO Susana Alejandro said the transaction marks an important milestone for the company and will reinforce its regional presence while adding experienced teams to the organization.

The expanded footprint is expected to enhance Saica's ability to provide integrated packaging solutions while supporting continued investment in local manufacturing infrastructure and customer service.

Saica Group provides sustainable paper and packaging solutions through four business divisions: recycled paper production, corrugated packaging, flexible packaging and environmental services. The company employs more than 14,500 people across 13 countries and reported consolidated revenue of €3.962 billion in 2025.
