Saica Group has solidified its position in the Polish market with the recent acquisition of Schumacher Packaging's operations in the country.
The deal, which was finalized on October 31, 2024, after receiving approval from Polish anti-trust authorities, encompasses two state-of-the-art corrugated board plants in Bydgoszcz and Wroclaw, as well as two paper mills in Grudziadz and Myszków, and three service centers.
This strategic move will significantly bolster Saica Group's presence in Poland, adding more than 1,500 employees to its workforce. The acquisition will also increase the company's production capacity by 420,000 tonnes of recycled paper for corrugated cardboard and an additional 530 million square meters of corrugated cardboard production capacity.
Susana Alejandro, President and CEO of Saica Group, expressed enthusiasm about the integration of Schumacher's skilled team into the Saica Group family. She emphasized the importance of human capital in driving the organization's success and highlighted the acquisition as a crucial step in Saica's growth strategy, particularly in Central and Eastern Europe.
By expanding its footprint in Poland, Saica Group aims to offer a wider range of paper solutions for corrugated cardboard and packaging, while also strengthening its commitment to circular economy principles. The company's goal is to provide customers with comprehensive, sustainable solutions that meet their evolving needs.
Saica Group's entry into the Polish market began in 2011 with a joint venture with Thimm Group, resulting in the acquisition of a corrugated cardboard packaging plant in Tychy. In 2022, the company further expanded its presence by acquiring a 76% stake in Fox Recykling, a waste management company in Gdynia.
With this latest acquisition, Saica Group's recycled paper production capacity for corrugated cardboard will increase to 3.7 million tonnes, solidifying its position as a leading supplier of corrugated cardboard packaging in the Polish market.
