UPM Fibres has finalized change negotiations across its Finnish operations, impacting approximately 1,600 employees within its pulp, timber, and forestry divisions.

Initiated in October, the talks aimed to improve efficiency and maintain profitability amid challenging market conditions.

The outcome includes the elimination of up to 88 positions and potential temporary layoffs within UPM Pulp’s Finnish mills and UPM Timber’s operations. The layoffs, scheduled for the first half of 2025, may last up to 90 days and will be implemented in stages if necessary.

UPM Fibres oversees extensive operations, including three pulp mills and four sawmills in Finland, in addition to forestry and wood sourcing services. The company emphasized its commitment to managing changes responsibly while ensuring competitive and sustainable operations.
