Domtar has released its 2025 Sustainability Report, outlining progress made during the second year of reporting as a unified company and highlighting advances toward the objectives of its 2030 Sustainability Strategy.
The report details improvements across environmental, social and governance (ESG) priorities, including stronger governance, more integrated environmental reporting, water conservation initiatives and deeper collaboration with Indigenous communities. It also reflects the continued integration of sustainability practices following the company's consolidation into a single organization.
Among the year's key achievements, Domtar reported improved scores across all three CDP disclosure categories—climate change, water security and forests—following its first unified submission as an integrated company. The company also introduced new corporate Environmental, Health & Safety and Global Indigenous Relations policies designed to establish consistent sustainability practices across its operations.
Water stewardship remains a major focus. Through a dedicated capital investment program within its Paper & Packaging business, Domtar continues to invest in projects aimed at reducing water-use intensity by 20% by 2030, compared with 2020 levels.
The company also advanced work on consolidating its Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions inventory across all business units. The completed inventory is expected to be published as part of Domtar's next CDP disclosure, scheduled for September 2026.
Another milestone highlighted in the report is the signing of the historic tiskwat land agreement with the Tla'amin Nation in British Columbia. According to Domtar, the agreement reflects its long-term commitment to building relationships with Indigenous Peoples based on collaboration and shared values.
To strengthen external oversight of its sustainability strategy, Domtar also established an External Sustainability Advisory Committee. Comprised of experts from academia, business, Indigenous relations and international environmental organizations, the committee is intended to provide independent guidance on emerging sustainability issues, industry best practices, and future risks and opportunities.
"Our 2025 Sustainability Report shows how much we've achieved since launching our 2030 Sustainability Strategy," said Sabrina de Branco, Global Chief Sustainability Officer, adding that the company has strengthened governance, aligned corporate policies and advanced sustainability initiatives across the organization.
