Stora Enso has set a target to achieve 90% material circularity in its direct operations by 2030, adopting a broader framework for measuring material circularity across its business. The company reported a 2025 baseline of 79%.

The target is part of Stora Enso's newly published Circularity Plan, which is aligned with the Global Circularity Protocol for Business (GCP). According to the company, the framework is intended to improve consistency, transparency and comparability in circularity reporting while supporting measurable progress toward its sustainability objectives.

The plan focuses on four key areas: circular design, resource efficiency, production practices and collaboration across value chains, providing the framework for achieving the company's 2030 circularity target.

The new target replaces Stora Enso's previous emphasis on technically recyclable products and reflects a broader approach to measuring circular performance. Progress will be reported through the company's sustainability reporting framework as the plan is implemented.

The Circularity Plan complements Stora Enso's broader sustainability agenda, which includes responsible sourcing, reducing environmental impacts and developing renewable materials that replace fossil-based alternatives. With a 2025 baseline of 79% material circularity, the company aims to reach 90% by 2030.

Stora Enso is a leading provider of renewable materials with businesses focused on packaging, biomaterials and wood products. The company reported sales of EUR 9.3 billion in 2025.
