Paperboard Packaging Council’s Spring 2026 Folding Carton Boot Camp brought packaging professionals together in Springfield, Massachusetts, for two days of technical training aimed at strengthening knowledge across the paperboard packaging supply chain.

Designed for both newcomers and experienced industry staff, the program covered the full lifecycle of folding carton production, from fiber sourcing and paperboard manufacturing to printing, converting, finishing and rigid box applications. Sessions were led by experts from across the sector, reflecting the collaborative nature of the paperboard packaging industry.

Participants explored topics including sustainable forestry, recycled fiber, structural design, print technologies, adhesives, laminating, diecutting, embossing and folder-gluer operations. The curriculum was built to connect technical concepts with real-world manufacturing practices and the performance demands of modern packaging.

PPC President Emily Leonczyk said the event stands out because it brings together professionals from across the industry to learn from one another. She noted that attendees leave with a deeper understanding of how each part of the packaging process fits together, along with stronger professional relationships and greater confidence.

Several industry specialists led the sessions, including representatives from Metsä Board, Smurfit Westrock, Koenig & Bauer, BOBST, Agfa, Heidelberg and Henkel. Their presentations combined manufacturing fundamentals with insight into emerging technologies shaping the sector.

The boot camp also emphasized the connection between production choices and broader outcomes such as efficiency, sustainability, print quality, structural performance and the consumer experience. One attendee, Greg Bartolin of Tavo Packaging, said the training delivered valuable hands-on insight that he was able to bring back to his facility.

PPC also welcomed its 2026 Woods Scholar, Karla Ness of Mill Rock Packaging, highlighting the organization’s focus on supporting rising talent in the industry. With a Fall 2026 Boot Camp already planned for November, PPC said it remains committed to professional development and technical education across the paperboard packaging sector.
