A mentor, guide and friend, David Carter is retiring after 51 years of service with J.D. Irving, Limited (JDI).

David’s career began with JDI in November 1973 as a labourer at Grand Lake Timber in Chipman, New Brunswick. He worked at Grand Lake Timber for several years alongside many of his family members in a variety of roles including heavy equipment operator and millwright. In April 2008, David began working as a millwright at Irving Pulp & Paper, where he quickly found the mill’s environment to be a “second home.”

“I am leaving my family at the mill and going back to my own family. I consider the people I work with every day my brothers and sisters and I’m going to miss them”, says David.

Known as a mentor around the mill, David is often seen touring new hires around the woodyard sharing valuable insights and techniques.

“There is a lot to be proud of,” says David. “I am proud of all the development and education opportunities I have been provided over my career, but I am most proud of having a career at home while raising a family.”

David is retiring on November 5th, 2024, his 51st work anniversary. In retirement, he looks forward to spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Congratulations and thank you to David Carter for your 51 years of dedication and service!
