British papermaker James Cropper Paper & Packaging has appointed Mike Gibson as Head of Business Development, strengthening its leadership team as the company accelerates growth initiatives and expands into new and emerging markets.
Gibson joined James Cropper earlier this year as Business Development Manager and brings more than 25 years of experience across the paper, packaging, and corrugated sectors. His background spans carrier bags, food and merchant packaging, and senior sales leadership roles in both the UK and international markets.
Over the course of his career, Gibson has held senior positions at Cepac, H-Pack, and ARC International in the United States, where he worked closely with corrugators nationwide. He has also contributed to packaging innovations, including the development of Marks & Spencer’s paper bag for life.
“James Cropper is an exceptional name in the industry, with a heritage that spans centuries,” Gibson said. “Its reputation precedes it, and being part of this prestigious company really appealed to me.”
He added that the company is at a pivotal stage in its evolution. “It’s an exciting time at James Cropper. The business has a rich heritage, and now it’s evolving for the modern era. I’m thrilled to be part of that transformation.”
Gibson’s experience across both premium and everyday packaging applications, combined with his international perspective, is expected to support James Cropper’s latest phase of innovation. The company has recently expanded its offering with the launch of Coloursource, a brand of paper materials designed to address a broader range of customer requirements—from standard packaging applications to highly customised, high-value solutions.
“The senior leadership team is developing strategies and products that many in the industry may not yet realise we offer,” Gibson noted. “Our goal is to ensure customers fully understand our capabilities, delivering everyday essentials while maintaining the premium, made-in-the-UK standards James Cropper is known for.”
The appointment comes alongside the naming of Julia Lawrence as Head of Regional Accounts. She joins Mickael Minot, appointed Brand Owner Director earlier this year, completing the restructuring of the company’s sales organisation. All three roles report directly to Managing Director Paul Barber.
“We are delighted to appoint Mike as Head of Business Development,” Barber said. “His extensive experience across the paper, packaging, and corrugated industries, combined with a strong track record of innovation and market growth, makes him a valuable addition as we accelerate into new markets.”
Barber added that the company is now well positioned to capitalise on emerging opportunities. “Following a period of realignment, James Cropper is entering a new phase of growth, focused on innovation, market expansion, and strengthening our presence across both premium and everyday packaging segments.”
