FPInnovations co-organizes the Second seminar on 3D printing as part of PulPaper 2018 in Finland

FPInnovations researchers recently visited Finland as part of the PulPaper 2018 Exhibitions & Conferences, a leading international forum for the forest-based industries that took place May 29-31 in Helsinki. Held under the theme Visit tomorrow today, the event reached over 9000 visitors.

The conference offered numerous topics, among which circular economy, climate change, digitalization, and the opportunities afforded by the industrial internet. In addition to exhibitions and conferences, the event also included tours of the most advanced pulp and paper mills in Europe, that is Metsä Fibre bioproducts mill, (1,300,000 tonnes/yr), and Kotkamills specialties & packaging mill (600,000 tonnes/yr).

The event was also the occasion for the presentation, on May 29, of the second seminar on 3D printing of biomaterials, hosted by VTT and FPInnovations. With key topics such as wood containing filaments, printing cellulose-based structure for electrical transformers, cellulose gel for biomedical applications, and wood-based materials for additive construction, the seminar attracted nearly 70 attendees, including major companies. FPInnovations' Research scientist Gary Li was one of the day's presenters with Exploring the application of 3D printing in forest products industry, while Lyne Cormier chaired the afternoon session. The complete program of the day can be seen by clicking here.

The FPInnovations team assembled a PowerPoint presentation with the most relevant and interesting information for our members. The document can be accessed here. A conference report is also available. Finally, the proceedings of the PulPaper conference are available in FPInnovations' libraries (676.06.P982pp 2018).

The event was very well received, and the organizing committee is now planning a third edition to be held in Vancouver in 2019. For more information, please contact Xuejun Zou, Senior Manager of the Fibre Production group.
